‘Dawn of the Digital Age’ topic of Feb. 17 talk

Computer history talk

Computer History Museum docent David Hoyt will present stories drawn from artifacts on display at the Mountain View museum on Feb. 17 at 7 pm. at the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum, 570 E Remington Drive.

In his talk “The Dawn of the Digital Age,” Hoyt will follow the evolution of the computer from the 1880s to the 1980s, from computers the size of houses to those that sat on desks in houses.

In addition to his work at the Computer History Museum, Hoyt volunteers at the Tech Interactive and Tech Challenge.

Towering art installation in downtown San Jose finally gets a new purpose

Valley Water is accepting applications for its Standard Grant Program under the Safe, Clean Water and Natural Flood Protection Program.

Each year, Valley Water provides funding for community projects that promote safe, clean drinking water, water conservation, flood protection and environmental stewardship in Santa Clara County.

The 2025 Standard Grant Program offers up to $150,000 per project for educational projects; planning, design and environmental resource investigations, academic research and feasibility study projects; smaller-scale implementation or capital projects focused on issues like pollution, water conservation and minor native habitat restoration,.

Eligible applicants include local cities, towns, county agencies, nonprofits, government agencies and educational institutions serving Santa Clara County. Applications are due by March 28.

Valley Water is hosting virtual workshops on the application process on Tuesday, Feb. 18, noon-1:30 p.m., and Thursday, Feb. 27, 5-6:30 p.m. To register and for more information, visit valleywater.org/grants.
