Peloton recalls more than 830,000 bikes over risk of fall; 2 injuries reported

Peloton is recalling more than 830,000 bikes because of potential safety issues that could cause riders to fall or get injured, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

According to the New York City-headquartered fitness and media company, the seat post assembly on certain Peloton Original Series Bike+ models can break during use, “posing a potential fall and injury risk to consumers.”

The voluntary recall affects bikes with model number PL02 and serial numbers starting with the letter “T,” Peloton said. They were manufactured from December 2019 through July 2022 and sold in the U.S. and Canada.

Peloton has received three reports of the seat post breaking during exercise, including two injuries from falls, of approximately 833,000 units sold in the U.S. There were no issues reported among the 44,8000 units sold in Canada, the company said.

With a list price of about $2,495, the Original Series Bike+ was sold from January 2020 through April 2025 in the U.S. at Dick’s Sporting Goods stores nationwide and online, as well as on onepeloton.com and major online retailers, including Amazon and eBay.

Users are warned to stop using the recalled bikes “immediately” and contact the company for a free seat post replacement that can be self-installed, Peloton said.

In May 2023, the company announced a voluntary recall of original Peloton model Bikes sold from January 2018 to May 2023 in the U.S. due to the same issue.

At the time, Peloton said it had identified 35 reports of seat posts breaking out of just over 2 million units sold, with 13 reports of injuries such as a wrist fracture, lacerations and bruises.
