Cool weather to linger in the Bay Area as showers subside

Cool weather to linger in the Bay Area as showers subside

A series of storms is making its way out of the Bay Area this weekend, leaving behind a trail of showers before giving way to sunny skies.

By Friday morning, most of the rain from this week had subsided. On Thursday night, downtown San Francisco received 2.14 inches of rain, while San Jose Mineta International Airport only received about 1.62 inches. People around Oakland Museum saw just under an inch of rain. For those around the Concord area and Livermore airport, the region received between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain, with rainfall counts higher in the nearby hills and lower in the valley, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Roger Gass.

Gass said Bay Area residents can expect some post-frontal rain showers on Friday morning as the air mass dries out.

“We can’t rule out a lingering rain shower or two through the morning, but then by the afternoon, it is going to start turning drier, and then by tonight, it’ll be all dry,” Gass said on Friday.

Temperatures will reach highs in the mid- to upper 50s across all areas around San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland and Livermore on Friday, Gass said; temperatures will be warmer on Saturday and Sunday, but only into the upper 50s and low 60s. Gass said these conditions were predicted to continue into next week until Wednesday. On Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures will reach low to mid-60s, Gass forecast.

By Friday morning, flood watch had been cancelled in the region, and the wind advisory and high wind warnings were no longer in effect. However, Saturday morning was expected to be chilly, with a frost advisory in the North Bay, and the rest of the Bay Area forecast to dip into the upper 30s to lower 40s.
