OAKLAND — An Oakland Housing Authority officer and another person were shot early Monday after gunfire broke out, police said.

Both the officer and the suspect were in stable condition at a hospital following the gunfire, according to police. The gunshots happened in the 900 block of 85th Avenue when the officer stopped the person at the public housing complex about 12:52 a.m.
Police did not say what led the exchange of gunfire.
The suspect’s gunfire injured the officer, while the suspect then was hit by gunfire from another officer who was not wounded, police said.
Guns that police said belonged to the suspect were found at the scene.
Oakland police are investigating the incident.
