MILPITAS — One person died early Friday following a multi-car freeway crash, the California Highway Patrol said.

The wreck happened on southbound Interstate 880 at Tasman Drive about 3:55 a.m. According to the CHP, two vehicles collided with one another, and one of them hit a tire on the roadway. More vehicles crashed following the initial collision, the agency said.
The aftermath of the crash left only the far right lane open. it was not known how long the other lanes would remain closed. The CHP issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic.
