The Los Altos Library is hosting a program on Feb. 3 for tweens and teens who want to level up their cooking with AI. Students in grades 6-12 can learn how to use AI to find the right ingredients, plan meals and invent their own dishes.
The program, set for 7-11 p.m., is part of this year’s Silicon Valley Reads. The theme for the 2025 community engagement program is “Empowering Humanity: Technology for a Better World.” Throughout February and March, Silicon Valley Reads will offer over 150 free events in partnership with schools, libraries, and community organizations across Santa Clara County.

Supporting writers
TheatreWorks Silicon Valley recently received a Grants for Arts Projects award of $10,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts. The funds will support the company’s Susan Fairbrook Core Writers Group, established in honor of the late TheatreWorks trustee Susan Kay Fairbrook.
The writers group is made up of a cohort of Bay Area-based writers at various stages in their careers. This program offers a year-long residency during which TheatreWorks provides a creative home and institutional support toward the development of new works.
Young Writers Contest
Jack London State Historic Park is accepting entries for its 10th annual Young Writers Contest for sixth- through-eighth-grade students. Entries should be short stories about a group of friends on a camping trip who get stranded in the wilderness and discover a mysterious set of footprints.
For contest rules and entry forms, visit https://jacklondonpark.com/annual-young-writers-contest. The contest closes at 11:59 p.m. on March 31, and winners will be announced by April 21. Prizes are $300, $200 and $150 for first, second and third place, respectively.
