New ‘no trespassing’ law in Milpitas has teeth

San Jose State University received national recognition this month for its efforts to enroll underserved student populations, facilitate successful student transfers and completions, and equip graduates for careers that lead to economic mobility.
“Instead of giving schools high marks for the number of students they turn down, we want to recognize schools doing the most to lift students up,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, who launched the Postsecondary Success Recognition Program in April 2024.

SJSU was among the first award recipients in the program, along with the University of South Carolina – Upstate and the University of Texas at Arlington. As noted in their application, SJSU administrators do not “attribute low graduation rates to student shortcomings,” but “believe that it is our responsibility to support every admitted student on their path to graduation.”

SJSU was among 100 predominantly bachelor’s degree-granting institutions invited to apply for the recognition.
