OAKLAND — Police here have identified the 44-year-old man who was shot and killed, allegedly by a 26-year-old man at the doorstep of a woman who was dating both men at the same time.

Darnell Parker, 44, was fatally shot on Jan. 15, outside a home on the 9400 block of International Boulevard. Police say that the 26-year-old man was arrested and that police seized a firearm from nearby the crime scene, but that the man was later released pending further investigation.

No criminal charges have been filed against the suspected shooter, according to court records.

It all started a little after 11 p.m., when Parker arrived at the woman’s home and attempted to go inside. Police say she refused to grant him entry and let him know that she was inside with her other boyfriend, the 26-year-old man.

Parker briefly left, but then returned and demanded a $50 payment for recently washing her car, according to authorities. When she opened the door to tell him to leave once again, her dog got out, and in the disarray that followed, the 26-year-old man ended up joining outside.

The woman later told police that Parker threatened to shoot the 26-year-old man shortly before the 26-year-old man shot and killed Parker. The suspected shooter and the woman police told police that he had a concealed carry permit to carry a firearm, according to authorities.

The 26-year-old man reportedly left the area after the shooting — at the woman’s request — and called 911 after the shooting and told police he may have shot someone. The woman had two children who were sleeping in her home during the incident, authorities said.
